Inpatient weight loss offers an option for dealing with being overweight when traditional means of weight loss has not been successful or when more help is needed to get you started.

Inpatient weight loss, not to be confused with fat camps, are found in hospitals or similar settings. As such, medical professionals are there to guide you throughout your stay.

Time spent in one of these facilities can last as little as a week or as long as several months. The duration depends on such factors as how overweight you may be, requirements of the program and monetary costs.

You can become an inpatient by one of two ways. Either you enter as a paying client or you can volunteer for a study. Needless to say, volunteering is the least expensive method of getting in, as becoming a paying client can run you thousands of dollars just for a week.

The diet that you'll be own varies from facility to facility. Some may put you own a liquid only diet, while others will serve you solid food. All will restrict your calorie intake, which can be as low as 800 to 900 calories a day.

Many facilities also provide you with an nutritionist to teach you about proper nutrition and about how to not only lose and keep off weight, but also how proper nutrition can help to prevent diseases and problems such as hypertension and diabetes.

You'll also be required to perform exercises daily throughout your stay. A exercise specialist will set up an exercise program for you, guide you in the proper forms of exercise and set realistic goals for you to obtain.

In inpatient weight loss facilities, you'll also get behavioral management counseling. During the counseling you'll explore such things as why you overeat and ways to modify that behavior.

Of course the facilities will monitor your progress and depending on what program you're own, they may also run more test on you. These test not only help you, but they will also help others who are in similar situations like yourself.

They also offer follow up outpatient care. This allows the client to go home to resume his or her life without feeling that they are all alone. This also give them an opportunity to asses how well the client is doing after his or her stay. Was weigh regained or did the client continue to lose more, etc.

In short, inpatient weight loss offers a host of services to help you lose weight and to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
